ICT AT REDROOFS
Pupils have protected ICT access for research purposes. We strongly support use of ICT at home to support classroom learning.
Pupils in Years 10 and 11 are permitted to bring laptops into school to support their GCSE coursework. These can be stored in staff areas for additional security.
The school regularly reassesses the requirements of its curriculum and is currently working on a plan to increase ICT in the classroom without diluting our strong traditional teaching methods well suited to the time factors available within our timetable.
We are strongly against the use of social networking sites for our pupils, many of whom are already in the public eye. We welcome to school from time to time specialists to explain in simple form the dangers of the use of such sites by minors, in particular with reference to on-line bullying, harassment and inappropriate exposure of information to “friends” . In this we include Facebook, Bebo, Twitter etc . In light of facebooks recent alterations to settings we ask that if pupils are permitted to have such access, parents monitor their childrens accounts and that accounts are set to private, and not permitting access to friends of friends.
